World Metrology Day Event

New Zealand - Register now

The Measurement Standards Laboratory of New Zealand again presents an event to celebrate World Metrology Day on Friday 20th May in person at the MSL Laboratories in Lower Hutt or view the morning session virtually for international guests. The MSA NZ committee will have a strong presence at this event promoting the CPS MSA2023 conference, announcing the NZ Emerging Metrologist of the year award, highlighting the great work done on the Education Initiative and hosting the MSA networking hour at the completion of the full day of talks and lab tours. Proposal for a global framework for metrology skills

The Midlands Centre for Data Driven Metrology, based in the UK, requires a diverse international team from all facets of metrology to form a working group to create a global framework for Metrology Skills. It is expected that regular workshops will be used to develop the basic proposal for the framework and to select the "route to market", be it via an international standard (e.g. ISO, ASME etc) or another robust route. More information can be found in the attached document.

Use of the MSA logo

It has come to our attention that a company in Melbourne is using the MSA logo on their email footers. This company currently has no MSA members or association with the MSA. It is important to note that the MSA does not endorse companies - indeed an organisation cannot be a member of the MSA, only individuals can. Please advise the MSA committee if you notice an organisation using the MSA logo in an inappropriate way and the committee will make contact with the organisation in question. On another note, it is pleasing that our logo holds some significance in the marketplace.

Passing of Robert Kay

With great sadness we advise that MSA member, Robert Kay, passed away unexpectedly on the 6th April. Robert was waiting for a heart procedure following his recovery from COVID, but sadly passed before this could happen. Robert ran the Oceanographic Calibration Facility at CSIRO in Hobart where he was particularly focused on milli-Kelvin scale calibration of temperature sensors, conductivity of sea water and pressure measurements for marine research. Robert was a regular attendee and presenter at MSA conferences - many members will recall his excellent knowledge in metrology combined with his great sense of humour, friendly nature and quick wit!

The MSA sends their deepest condolences to Rob's friends and family - he has left this world way too soon and will be dearly missed.
