International Women in Engineering Day 2019 - 23rd June 2019
International Women in Engineering Day, under the patronage of UNESCO, is an international awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and focuses attention on the amazing career opportunities available to girls in this exciting industry. In 2019, the theme was #TransformTheFuture. The MSA committee would like to ‘shout out’ to all the amazing achievements of women engineers throughout the world. In-line with our desire to inspire young people into STEM careers, and in particular Engineering, there is a great book series on this topic called ‘Rosie Revere’ aimed at primary school age children. NZ organisation InKind has produced a number of short videos about Women Engineers titled #FindingRosie which uses the Rosie Revere books to tell real life stories about women engineers in NZ.

Passing the mantle at APL
Australian Pressure Laboratory (APL) is pleased to announce a recent change of ownership, with the mantle being passed on from company founder, Randall Anderson, to long-time employee, Liam Shanahan.MSA members will be familiar with both Randall and Liam, with Randall being one of the MSA’s founding Members and serving in various MSA committees since 1996, and Liam having acted as the MSA’s website administrator since 2013. The team at APL, including Randall’s brother, Rowan, have been active in the Pressure Interest Group, at MSA Conferences, and were instrumental in the development of the MSA Test Methods for Pressure.
APL has developed a reputation as pressure calibration specialists over more than 25 years, and Liam intends to continue with Randall and Rowan’s vision for high quality accredited pressure calibration. The APL team has grown in recent years, but even with the change in ownership, Randall and Rowan remain as central and highly experienced members of the team at APL.
